Bardstown Cemetery — Bardstown, KY

The weird things that have happened in this cemetery show what can happen when you anger a prominent member of society. John Rowan was a state judge, served seven terms in the legislature, and served as a United States Senator. He absolutely forbade that any kind of monument or stone be placed over his grave.

When he died in 1843, his family ignored his wishes and erected a fairly large monument over his grave. Within a few months, strange things started to happen. The tall marker started tumbling from its base and had to be put back repeatedly. After a while, the stonemasons who were sent to repair it, were frightened and refused to return.
